Just weeks after giving birth to her son Win, Ciara delivers her new single “Rooted” featuring Ester Dean.
The mother of three celebrates Black excellence in the empowering video, which she shot just two days before giving birth. In the clip, a pregnant Ciara showcases her melanin magic while dancing with her baby bump.
“Brown skin poppin’, I’m rooted / ATL-bred, I’m rooted,” she sings on the triumphant anthem. “All my songs come with melanin / Got the heart, got the soul like Harriet.”
She also shines a light on other dancers and the Black Lives Matter movement. Her son Future and daughter Sienna make cameos alongside their mother in one powerful scene.
“To all my young Rosa’s and Young Luther’s keep marching,” said Ciara. “Don’t stop fighting for what you believe in. To all my Black queens and kings, continue to plant and spread seeds of love, hope and pride in your tribe. Everything you need to survive and thrive is rooted in you. Stay rooted.”
A portion of proceeds from the song will benefit Grantmakers for Girls of Color, a philanthropic organization dedicated to cultivating investments in support of girls of color in the U.S.
“For me, this song allowed me to celebrate the Black joy,” Ciara told ET. “It allowed me also to celebrate our uniqueness, our strength, everything that we need to survive and thrive is rooted in us.”
