SZA is digging in the vault.
While fans eagerly await the follow-up to 2017’s Ctrl, the TDE songstress is playing around with the idea of dropping a bunch of unreleased tracks as part of a “music dump.” Taking to Twitter, she pitched the idea to her millions of followers.
“So like a music dump .. similar to a photo dump but not an album .. this concept make sense to anyone?” she asked. “Has anyone ever done it? Asking for me.”
She envisions it consisting of around 20 unreleased songs from the past six years, not unlike Nas’ Lost Tapes.
She even asked fans to suggest which songs they would like to see. “Okay dead ass THIS IS NOW A COLLECTIVE EFFORT EVERYONE IF U HAVE A SNIPPET IN MIND PLACE IT IN THIS THREAD I DONT REMEMBER ALL OF THEM SO GATHER WHAT U WANT AND ILL SEARCH THE HARDDRIVE TODAY,” said SZA.
And she’s not looking to profit off it either. According to SZA, the proceeds would benefit charity. “Def tryna sell it for charity .. too many ppl hurting to make a dollar rn,” she added.
It’s been three years since SZA released her critically-acclaimed debut Ctrl. She previously announced plans for a deluxe edition, but the window has seemingly come and gone. “It was like a missed text message I felt like too much time passed and it didn’t matter anymore 😩 started something new 🤷🏾♀️ .. i was wrong lol,” she said.
In January, she told fans that her sophomore album would arrive sometime this year. She has been in the studio with BROCKHAMPTON, Jack Antonoff, and Sam Smith, but it’s unclear where those collaborations will land.
