Drake is vying for No. 1 on next week’s charts.
The rapper’s surprise mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes is putting up big numbers since its release on Friday. According to HITS Daily Double, the 14-track set is expected to move 230-255,000 equivalent album units in its first week, of which 18-23,000 are in album sales.
But country legend Kenny Chesney is hot on Champagne Papi’s heels with his latest album Here and Now, which is on track to do 220-235,000 units in its first week. Of that number, a whopping 210-220,000 are from traditional album sales.
Drake appears to have a slight edge with streams currently projected to top 275 million, but Chesney is close behind thanks to a concert ticket bundle.
On Friday, Drake dropped Dark Lane Demo Tapes, a precursor to his sixth studio album, due this summer. The project consists of “some leaks and some joints from SoundCloud and some new vibes,” including collaborations with Chris Brown, Future, Playboi Carti, and Young Thug.
Final numbers won’t be released until next Sunday. Meanwhile, YoungBoy Never Broke Again is expected to top this week’s Billboard 200 with his mixtape 38 Baby 2.
