Justin Bieber is opening about his struggle with Lyme disease.

According to TMZ, the “Yummy” singer will reveal in his upcoming documentary series that he has been diagnosed with the infectious disease.

In the doc, which premieres later this month, Bieber and those close to him discuss the symptoms he endured in 2019. His condition went undiagnosed for much of the year while doctors tried to figure out what was wrong with him. While many believed that he was battling depression, doctors finally confirmed the Lyme disease diagnosis late last year.

It’s unclear how he contracted the disease, but it comes from a tick bite. Symptoms include rashes, headaches, fever, and fatigue. Bieber was seen leaving a doctor’s office back in November with an IV in his arm. He was prescribed medicine to combat his ailment, and one of the meds caused his skin to break out.

But he’s on the mend and is being treated with the proper meds. He planned to drop new music last year but it kept on being delayed due to his health. His team wanted to make sure he was well enough before announcing an album and tour.

“There was a period where it was really tough for him,” says his friend and House of Drew co-founder Ryan Good. “He was a shell of himself.”

He is now gearing up to release his fifth studio album and launch a North American arena tour, starting May 14 in Seattle.

Bieber’s 10-part docuseries Justin Bieber: Seasons, which chronicles the last four years of his life, premieres Jan. 27 on YouTube.

UPDATE: Bieber has confirmed that he was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease. Taking to Instagram, he spoke out about his battle with the incurable disease as well as chronic mono, which also affected his health. While it’s been a “rough couple years,” he is getting treatment and vowed to “be back and better than ever.”
