Feel the Bern.
During his campaign rally at Morehouse College in Atlanta on Thursday (Nov. 21), Bernie Sanders was introduced to the sounds of Young Thug and Travis Scott’s hit “Pick Up the Phone.” The Democratic presidential candidate took the stage to roaring applause from the crowd, who held up campaign signs as Thug’s verse played throughout Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel Plaza.
“Pick Up the Phone,” which also features Quavo, originally appeared as a bonus track on Thug’s 2016 mixtape Jeffrey and later on Scott’s sophomore album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
The Vermont senator has been popular with celebrities including Ariana Grande. On Tuesday, Sanders showed up at the pop superstar’s “Sweetener World Tour” in Atlanta. Grande called Sanders “my guy” and shared photos of the two hugging backstage.
“thank you Senator Sanders for coming to my show, making my whole night and for all that you stand for!” she tweeted. “@headcountorg and i are doing our best to make you proud. we’ve already registered 20k+ young voters at my shows alone. also i will never smile this hard again promise.”
In July, Cardi B sat down with Sanders for a campaign video aimed at encouraging young voters. During the 12-minute interview, they discussed issues facing Americans today including police brutality, immigration, student debt, healthcare, wages, and more.
