Tinashe is readying new music for her fans.
Taking to social media Saturday, the R&B singer posted a 90-second trailer teasing her next release, Songs for You. “songs for you… coming soon,” she tweeted.
In the video, Tinashe confronts her critics alongside footage of her rehearsing and recording. “Do you ever feel like nobody knows who the fuck you are?” she asks. “All the time I feel so authentic with my life and somehow people still don’t understand me. They don’t understand what I’m about. They don’t understand how I move.”
The dramatic clip also includes footage from her past music videos as she reflects on her journey. “They say, ‘Who are you?’ Who are you? Who are you?’ Which is fucking weird to me because I know exactly who I am.”
The video ends with Tinashe asking herself a question. “Everybody’s like, ‘What are you gonna do now? What are you gonna do?'” she says before “Songs for You” flashes on screen.
More details, including a release date, remain unclear. Tinashe is currently in London and plans to preview new music during a listening party for her fans in the next few days.
The Songs for You announcement follows reports that she has separated from her longtime manager Mike Nazzaro and may have signed a management deal with Roc Nation.
In February, Tinashe confirmed her split with RCA Records, where she released her 2014 debut Aquarius and last year’s Joyride. Last month, she told fans that she was in a good creative space and getting back to her roots.
“Creatively, I just feel like I needed to go through what I went through in order to be the person that I am today and to get back to my roots,” she said. “You pretty much put your heart and soul and emotions into all these songs and then you put them out there for the world to judge and tear down and pick apart. It’s terrifying and it can really mess with your head.”
