It’s official. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are headed to the Super Bowl.
The Latin superstars will co-headline the Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show on Feb. 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The NFL confirmed the megastar lineup by posting a photo of the Hustlers actress and Colombian bombshell side by side in matching black and gold outfits.
“Two 👑 👑 First time together on stage…on the world’s biggest stage,” wrote the official Pepsi Instagram account. “Welcome @jlo and @shakira to #PepsiHalftime #SBLIV @rocnation @nfl.”
“Ever since I saw Diana Ross fly off into the sky at the Halftime Show, I dreamed of performing at the Super Bowl,” said Lopez. “And now it’s made even more special not only because it’s the NFL’s 100th anniversary, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage.”
“I’m so honored to be taking on one of the world’s biggest stages in the company of a fellow female artist to represent Latinos and Latinas from the U.S. and all over the world–and to top it off, on my birthday!” added Shakira. “This is a true American dream and we are going to bring the show of a lifetime!”
The halftime announcement follows the NFL’s deal with JAY-Z’s Roc Nation to serve as the league’s “live music entertainment strategist,” consulting on entertainment, including the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Shakira is managed by Roc Nation.
J.Lo had reportedly been in talks with the NFL for a while and was at the top of their list. “Yeah, actually we have talked about it a couple times,” she told Rap-Up in a 2014 interview. “It hasn’t worked out yet because of the timing.”
J.Lo and Shakira follow Maroon 5, Travis Scott, and Big Boi, who performed at last year’s halftime show.
Rihanna was also rumored to be in the running, but she shut down the rumors. “Actually this is my first time hearing about the Super Bowl since last Super Bowl,” she recently told “Entertainment Tonight,” adding, “Girl, I still got an album to finish.”
