August Alsina is on the mend.
In July, the R&B crooner revealed that he has been battling an autoimmune disease. He recalled waking up one day and being temporarily paralyzed before being admitted to the hospital.
“I woke up one day and wasn’t able to walk, couldn’t feel my legs, and my doctor ended up admitting me into the hospital,” said August.
On Monday, he returned to Instagram to provide an update on his health. He informed fans that he has started his IV antibody immunotherapy treatment, which he likens to chemotherapy.
“My doctors have started me on my iv antibody Immunotherapy. In short form it’s sort of like chemo but instead, for my immune system,” he wrote. “Only in this case, not killing the cells, but encouraging my nervous system & body to rebuild.”
He admitted that it hasn’t been easy, but he remains in good spirits. “I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been tough on my body, but there are necessary steps in order to make progress,” he added. “iLLness is so humbling & I often find myself singing this song of affirmation to myself eryday, so I figured I’d share that same love, affirmation and motivation with yal, whoever may need it. iHope it speaks to u.”
Alsina previously told fans that he would return with new music. In February, he released his Forever and a Day EP, followed by his remixes to songs from Kehlani and Khalid.
To hold fans over, he has shared an a cappella cover of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young.” Watch below.
