Rihanna is not adding mother to her résumé just yet.
On Thursday, rumors surfaced that the singer was pregnant after she stepped out to her 5th annual Diamond Ball in New York. The 31-year-old stunned in a black Givenchy Haute Couture mermaid gown, which accentuated her stomach. After seeing the photos, there was speculation that she could be pregnant. To add more fuel to the fire, Rihanna made reference to a baby during a red carpet interview.
“I’m a black woman. I come from a black woman who came from a black woman who came from a black woman and I’m gonna give birth to a black woman,” she told Essence.
The interview raised eyebrows. One fan reposted the clip, writing, “Was this Rihanna telling us she’s pregnant????”
But fans shouldn’t jump to conclusions. Despite the rumors, she is reportedly not pregnant. Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ that RiRi does not have a baby on the way.
Hosted by Seth Meyers, Thursday’s Diamond Ball was a star-studded affair. In addition to performances from DJ Khaled and Pharrell (who performed “Lemon” with RiRi), the guest list included Cardi B, A$AP Rocky, G-Eazy, Normani, Kehlani, and YG.
“I mean I’m really happy right now,” Rihanna told PEOPLE. “The thing that’s making me the happiest tonight is seeing the amount of support, the magnitude of support is really special.”
The gala benefits her Clara Lionel Foundation, which funds global education, health, and emergency response programs. “I mean I could be out here and throw a ball by myself and I’d feel good, but the thing that’s making me feel this high of cloud 9 is seeing people who believe in my cause and think it’s something worth donating to, something worth investing in,” she added.
While she may not be giving birth, RiRi is planning to eventually deliver her long-awaited ninth album, which is still awaiting a release date. “Y’all gon’ have to wait, Navy, I’m so sorry,” she told “Entertainment Tonight” earlier this week.
The Diamond Ball follows Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty Fashion Week show earlier in the week, which featured performances from Migos, Big Sean, Fabolous, Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, and Tierra Whack. The fashion extravaganza will stream on Amazon Prime Video starting Sept. 20.
