Ice Cube can be found on many top 5 lists, but who’s in his top 5?
During a recent interview with Nick Cannon on Power 106, the West Coast legend revealed the five MCs in his hip-hop hall of fame.
“I always look at the influencers, the pioneers, the ones who virtually created a style or a flavor all their own,” said the N.W.A. pioneer before revealing his top 5.
He started with Melle Mel, followed by Ice-T. Public Enemy legend Chuck D earned the third spot, while KRS-One finished fourth. And last but not least was Rakim.
“To me those are the trendsetters, the ones who changed the trajectory of the game in a major way,” explained Cube. “It was about skills and talent, and really having their own style and taking it and running with it.”
Cube, who released his latest album Everythang’s Corrupt in December, is set to headline the 2nd annual Welcome to the West Festival on Sept. 20 in Ontario, Calif. The lineup also includes Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, DJ Quik, Roddy Ricch, and Dom Kennedy.
