The Marathon continues.
Nipsey Hussle will be honored with a tower at his strip mall on Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue in his community of South Central L.A. Taking to Instagram, the rapper’s girlfriend Lauren London shared a message from The Marathon Clothing team saying that “early development” has already begun on the Nipsey Hussle Tower.
“As a notice to the public, we’re putting up a gate on Thursday, August 1st, 2019 to enclose the plaza at 3420 W. Slauson Ave to start the early development stages of the forthcoming Nipsey Hussle Tower to commemorate and honor the life and legacy of Nipsey,” read the statement.
The Marathon Clothing store, which is located in the strip mall, will remain closed, but purchases can still be made online at TheMarathonClothing.com.
Construction on the Nipsey Hussle Tower comes four months after the rapper was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store on March 31. Nipsey owned the shopping center, which was being investigated for gang activity prior to his death.
The LAPD is planning a heavy presence at the store on his birthday, Aug. 15. Police are anticipating thousands of fans to show up to pay their respects. According to TMZ, more than 100 officers will be in the area.
The Nipsey Hussle Tower is the latest tribute to the beloved MC. There have been many fan tributes throughout L.A., including murals on buildings, billboards, and basketball courts.
