It’s official. Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty are headed down the aisle.
The rapper and her boyfriend took a trip to the Beverly Hills Courthouse to get their marriage license on Monday (July 29), according to TMZ.
Witnesses say they saw Nicki and Petty at the marriage license bureau window. The couple tried to keep a low profile inside the courthouse as they waited in line at a window that read, “Marriage licenses and ceremony Appts. ONLY.” Nicki was wearing a baseball cap over her knee-length bright red hair. Petty paid for the license before they left.
During an episode of Queen Radio in June, Nicki said that she and Petty had already received their marriage license. “We did get our marriage license,” she told listeners.
The couple met when Nicki was a 17-year-old living in Queens, and rekindled their romance last year. She raps about their relationship on “Zanies and Fools” off Chance the Rapper’s new album The Big Day.
“I met my husband when I was 17 out in Queens / If you love it, let it go, now I know what that means,” raps Nicki. “While he was up North for a body / I bodied everybody and got known for my body / My ni**a home now, he the Clyde to my Bonnie / ‘Bout to walk down the aisle and be a mommy.”
She and Petty have already discussed plans to start a family. “I’m not saying I’m pregnant. That’s the end goal,” she said last month.
Minaj has been quick to defend her man, who was convicted of first-degree attempted rape and manslaughter. “How do y’all not understand happiness vs. clout?” she said on Friday’s episode of Queen Radio. “I’d rather be with a ni**a that I really know is ’bout that motherfu**in’ life and they ’bout to play with none of you fu**ing ni**as or bitches and that loved me before I had anything, before I had a dime to my name, before my name was Nicki.”
It’s unclear when they plan to wed, but a license is usually pulled shortly before the nuptials and is good for a maximum of 90 days.
