Is Nicki Minaj planning a surprise release?
The rap queen has been laying low and refraining from using social media. But she returned from her hiatus to share a cryptic teaser on her social accounts, giving fans hope that something new is on the way.
“MEGATRON,” Minaj simply wrote on Wednesday (June 12). She also changed her Twitter and Instagram profile pics to the word.
The Megatron reference seemingly comes from the song “Transformer,” her collaboration with Future off his and Juice WRLD’s WRLD ON DRUGS joint project. “Some call me Nicki, but some call me Megatron,” she raps on the track.
A video of Nicki as a robot named Megatron also appeared during her European “Nicki WRLD Tour” with Juice WRLD earlier this year.
Rapper CupcakKe retweeted Minaj and wrote, “Dropping this Friday.” It’s unclear if and how she is involved with Minaj’s announcement.
It was previously reported that Nicki would tour with Chris Brown this summer, but Chris announced his “INDIGOAT Tour” without Nicki this week. According to TMZ, she never signed on for the tour and was unable to commit because she is in the studio working on new music.
Minaj’s most recent album, Queen, was released in August 2018.
UPDATE: Nicki has announced that her new single “Megatron” will premiere on Friday, June 21. She shared photos from the video shoot featuring what appears to be her boyfriend Kenneth Petty. The same day, she will also host a new episode of Queen Radio.
