Tyler, The Creator is IGOR.
Following a series of teasers, the Odd Future rapper delivers his sixth solo album. All 14 tracks were written and produced by Tyler, with appearances from Kanye West, Playboi Carti, Charlie Wilson, Solange, and Lil Uzi Vert. He draws inspiration from his idol Pharrell and N.E.R.D on the project, which features elements of pop, jazz, funk, and dance.
Prior to the album’s release, Tyler issued a PSA to fans, telling them to keep an open mind and not compare IGOR to his previous work. “IGOR. This is not Bastard. This is not Goblin. This is not Wolf. This is not Cherry Bomb. This is not Flower Boy. This is IGOR,” he said. “Don’t go into this expecting a rap album. Don’t go into this expecting any album. Just go, jump into it.”
After listening, he invited them to share their opinions. “As much as I would like to paint a picture and tell you my favorite moments, I would rather you form your own,” added Tyler. “If we ever cross paths, feel free to articulate what those moments were for you, keep it timely tho I’m not tryna have an Oprah episode. Stank you smelly mucho.”
IGOR marks the follow-up to 2017’s Flower Boy, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Last November, Tyler dropped a six-track holiday EP, Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch.
Tyler has also announced that his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival will return to L.A.’s Dodger Stadium on Nov. 9-10. Pre-sale tickets are already sold out.
