Nipsey Hussle’s daughter reunited with her mother during an emotional court hearing.
The rapper’s sister, Samantha Smith, and his brother, Blacc Sam, appeared in L.A. County Superior Court on Tuesday (May 14) for a guardianship hearing over Nipsey’s 10-year-old daughter, Emani Asghedom. According to TMZ, Emani’s biological mother, Tanisha, was also at the hearing and broke down in tears when she saw her daughter for the first time in months.
The judge cleared the courtroom for 20 minutes so that Tanisha and Emani could spend some time together. As a result, the hearing has been postponed until Friday when a decision will be made regarding custody and finances.
Last month, Smith filed legal documents asking for guardianship of Emani because she believes Tanisha is unable to care for the child.
Nipsey was Emani’s primary caretaker prior to his death in March, but Smith says she assisted in caring for Emani throughout her life and wants “to ensure the continued stability for Emani and ensure that she will be able to maintain her current and ongoing relationship” with Nipsey’s family.
Nipsey’s brother has also vouched for Smith by filing a declaration in support of her guardianship of their niece. Meanwhile, Sam continues his legal battle for control of Nipsey’s estate, including $2 million in assets.
Following Nipsey’s death, Smith paid tribute to her brother and promised to take care of his family including Emani. “You’ve taught me so much. You hold me down through everything,” she wrote on Instagram. “I got Lauren. I got Emani. I got Kross. I got Sam, he is my responsibility now.”
Nipsey also has a son, 2-year-old Kross, from his relationship with Lauren London.
