J. Cole is stepping into Young Thug’s world.

The Dreamville boss is set to executive produce the Atlanta rapper’s upcoming album, according to Complex. Sources say that the two have already started initial recording sessions in New York.

Their friendship has been building and the rappers began discussing a potential collaboration. Last year, Thug toured the country with Cole on the latter’s “KOD Tour,” which came as a surprise to many fans.

“I did get the feedback on that that mad people were surprised. Really it’s just like, the ni**a’s dope,” Cole told Angie Martinez in May 2018. “If you want to talk about Young Thug as an artist, he’s an innovator. If you know skills, you call him a mumble rapper all you want, but if you know skills and you know the art of rapping, that dude is a genius.”

The details around the project remain unclear. Thugger has been in the studio working on a new body of work, his first since last year’s On the Rvn EP and Slime Language compilation. He has also teased several unreleased projects including Barter 7 and Hy!£UN35.

This won’t be a first for Cole, who served as executive producer of Swizz Beatz’ 2018 album Poison. He is also working on his sixth studio album and the Dreamville compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III.
