Lil Uzi Vert is back again.
After announcing his retirement earlier this year and signing with Roc Nation, the Philly rapper returns with his latest track “Free Uzi,” which he released via SoundCloud and TIDAL on Thursday.
On the three-minute track, Uzi unleashes some rapid-fire rhymes about his trust issues, “The Big Bang Theory,” and his financial situation. “Had to get my business together / I had $3 million in taxes,” he says. “I got it all off on this level / They said it’s $3 million that’s missing / I ain’t say nothing, I stay level.”
“Free Uzi” arrives ahead of his oft-delayed sophomore album Eternal Atake, which has been held up over issues with his label, DJ Drama and Don Cannon’s Generation Now. In January, Uzi told fans that he was quitting music, but recently returned to the studio.
In response to the “Free Uzi” movement, DJ Drama and Don Cannon announced that Uzi has their blessing to release Eternal Atake. “Uzi should put out EA out tomorrow or any day he wants,” said Drama. “He has me & Cannon’s total support and blessings to drop it!”
Uzi has officially signed a management deal with JAY-Z’s Roc Nation and is now listed on the company’s roster of artists.
