Emotions were running high during Ariana Grande’s concert.

While performing “Thank U, Next” during her “Sweetener World Tour” at Washington D.C.’s Capital One Arena on Monday (Mar. 25), the pop star appeared to cry when her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller’s name was mentioned.

“Wish I could say ‘Thank you’ to Malcolm / ‘Cause he was an angel,” sang Grande before seemingly breaking down in tears. She then went silent for a few seconds as her backup dancers comforted her.

As Complex points out, Monday marked six years since the release of “The Way,” Grande’s collaboration with Miller.

Later in the performance, she tried to fight back more tears, but was able to lift her spirits by twerking with her dancers.

Following the performance, Grande thanked her fans for their support during the emotional moment. “Thanks for accepting my humanness,” she tweeted. “It’s super emo and difficult singing some of these songs. but you make me smile. i look like penny pingleton here. i love u and thanks. i feel your warmth up there and it helps and is greatly appreciated.”

During Monday’s show, she also performed an unreleased song called “She Got Her Own” alongside Victoria Monét. According to Billboard, Ariana first teased the song on Snapchat back in 2016.
