Lil Pump is opening up the “Butterfly Doors” on 2019.
The 18-year-old rapper kicks off the year with another irresistible single, which finds him whipping up more catchy rhymes and flexing about foreign whips. “Butterfly doors, space coupe look like a UFO,” he raps on the laidback cut.
The song sparked controversy after Pump first previewed it on Instagram. In the teaser clip, he made a derogatory Asian reference while pulling back his eyes to make them appear slanted. “They call me Yao Ming ’cause my eyes real low (ching chong),” he rapped on the earlier version.
Following backlash, he deleted the teaser and apologized. “It was not my intention to hurt nobody or do none of that. Dead ass. Because I’ve got Asian homies,” said Pump. “I fuck with everybody, got nothing against nobody. It’s all love.”
The final version includes the lyrics, but removes the “ching chong” ad lib and bleeps out the name of former NBA superstar Yao Ming.
To go along with the song, Pump shared the electrifying music video. In the high-octane clip, directed by Ben Griffin, he shows out alongside a fleet of Lamborghinis while surrounded by twerking dancers bathed in neon lights.
Pump is now revving up for his new album, Harverd Dropout, and will perform with Gucci Mane and Smokepurpp as part of the Gucci Gang set at Coachella in April.
