Fans may have to hold out for a new Kendrick Lamar album.
In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 31-year old Lamar claims he is not currently working on a new album. He refused to elaborate, only saying that he’s constantly working. However, someone in his camp did mention that Kendrick was headed to the studio immediately after wrapping the interview.
The interview was part of a promotional obligation for Black Panther: The Album, which earned Kendrick seven Grammy nominations including Album of the Year, Record of the Year (“All the Stars”), Song of the Year (“All the Stars”), Best Rap/Sung Performance (“All the Stars”), and Best Song Written for Visual Media (“All the Stars”).
He also received his first nomination for Best Original Song – Motion Picture at the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards for “All the Stars.”
In response to all the accolades, Kendrick was humbled. “It feels great. I’m not only representing myself, but I’m representing my people … people I’ve been familiar with since I was born,” said the Compton-bred rapper.
If he wins on Grammy night, the highly-decorated MC will add to his already 12 wins. “I don’t know what I’ll say if I win,” he said. “A lot of different emotions will be running through me, and I usually just say what I’m inspired to say at that moment … what comes off the chest. It’s just a great thing to know that these bodies of work come from a simple thought and you put that simple thought down on wax, and then you give it to the people and it goes from there.”
