Six months after his tragic death, the first posthumous album from XXXTentacion has arrived.
Skins, which follows March’s chart-topping ?, contains 10 songs and has a run time of 19 minutes. In addition to the single “BAD!,” the 10 tracks include a lone collaboration with Kanye West, who addresses X’s controversial past on “One Minute.” Prior to his death, the 20-year-old rapper was awaiting trial for a 2016 domestic abuse case involving his pregnant girlfriend.
“So much hate at the top, it’s a lonely place,” raps West, who seemingly sympathizes with X. “The world only know you by your worst mistakes.”
Skins arrives six months after X was shot and killed as he was leaving a motorcycle dealership. A grand jury has indicted four men on first-degree murder and armed robbery charges.
There could be even more music in the vault. X reportedly has a “deep archive” of unreleased material that his estate may license in the future. “X was always recording and making music and being creative,” his lawyer Bob Celestin told The New York Times in July.
