Azealia Banks knows how to get people talking. After accusing Nicki Minaj of jacking her mermaid concept, the Harlem spitfire makes more waves with her new single “Treasure Island.” Over the dreamy dance bop, Azealia rattles off some rapid-fire rhymes.
“The mermaid, got the water for you and the waves so wet that he wanted it too,” she raps. “The pleasuries are on treasure island / How do I get there?”
“Treasure Island,” which will be released to streaming services on July 13, marks the follow-up to “Anna Wintour,” and is set to appear on Fantasea II: The Second Wave, the sequel to Banks’ debut mixtape Fantasea and her first album under eOne. A release date has yet to be announced, but Azealia has revealed one of the covers for the double disc set.
Earlier in the day, Azealia called out Nicki Minaj for copying her mermaid theme in her “Bed” video. “Chicken of the sea sis. Stay in your own lane. @nickiminaj lol you running out of ideas girl,” she wrote.
She later added, “Lol I’m high key excited about the series of diss records that will come off the back of this. Great Promo for Fantasea Two: The Second Wave.”
