The secret is out: Offset and Cardi B are husband and wife.
Hip-hop’s power couple secretly wed nine months ago, according to TMZ. A marriage certificate under the rappers’ legal names, Kiari Kendrell Cephus and Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, was filed in Fulton County, Ga. on Sept. 20, 2017. The certificate is filed with the court after a couple weds as proof the marriage really happened.
Offset alluded to his wife at Sunday’s BET Awards. While accepting the award for Best Group, the Migos rapper thanked Cardi. “I thank my wife. You should thank yours,” he said.
Offset proposed to Cardi onstage at Power 99’s Powerhouse concert in Philadelphia in October, but despite the public showing, they had already been married for a month.
The couple is now expecting their first child, a baby girl, next month. “I don’t want to miss one second,” Cardi told Rolling Stone of motherhood. “I don’t want to miss no smiles, I don’t want to miss no new movement, I don’t want the baby to confuse me and the babysitter.”
UPDATE: Cardi has confirmed the marriage reports. Taking to Twitter, she revealed that she and Offset woke up one morning last September and decided to wed in a private ceremony in front of an officiant and her cousin. “I said I do, with no dress, no makeup, and no ring!” she wrote.
They kept it a secret because they wanted to have the moment for themselves. “There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself!” said Cardi. “Getting married was one of those moments!”
She also addressed the public proposal at Philly’s Powerhouse concert. “I appreciate and love my husband so much for still wanting for me have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on his knee and put a ring on my finger and he did that for me!!” she said.
She said her album title Invasion of Privacy was a reference to people’s interest in her personal life. “Well now since you lil nosey fucks know at least ya can stop saying I had a baby out of wedlock,” she said.
The couple still plans to wed in an official ceremony once Cardi gives birth next month.
