Meek Mill returned to the BET Awards stage with a powerful performance.

The Philadelphia rapper, who was released from prison in April, debuted his new single “Stay Woke” following an introduction from Philly’s own Lil Uzi Vert, Kevin Hart, Questlove, and Black Thought. Wearing a hoodie with XXXTentacion’s face on the front and Jimmy Wopo on the back, Meek delivered some gripping bars about gun violence and mass incarceration while Miguel sang the hook.

“We scream Black Lives Matter, but we still towing ladders,” he rapped on a stage depicting a street corner.

During the performance, a child actor was gunned down by police officers while her mother looked on in tears.

“Stay Woke” is Meek’s first new material since his incarceration ended. He is now readying a new album, his first since last year’s Wins & Losses.
