Tierra Whack is in a lane of her own. Following her trippy “Mumbo Jumbo” video, the Philadelphia rapper showcases her bold and innovative artistry as part of her Whack World audiovisual project.
Each of the 15 one-minute clips, which she conceptualized with Mathieu Leger and Thibaut Duverneix, offers a different emotion and song, mixed with humor, color, and candor. One minute she’s grooming a taxidermy dog, the next she’s dancing in a cemetery with sock puppets, and then singing about her “deadbeat dad” in a room full of red balloons.
Tierra, who will perform at the Roots Picnic in Philly this weekend, has earned praise from Meek Mill, Lil Yachty, Solange, Kehlani, and Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract, who hailed “Mumbo Jumbo” as the “best music video” of 2017.
