Ebro Darden says Kanye West still loves President Donald Trump.

Over the weekend, Yeezy earned criticism for praising right-wing conservative Candace Owens on Twitter. Darden was one of the people criticizing ‘Ye for his comments, which prompted a 30-minute phone conversation about everything from politics to race.

During the phone call, Ebro claims West professed his love for Trump once again. “[Kanye] said, ‘I do love Donald Trump,'” Darden reported. “Kanye West quote: ‘I love Donald Trump.'” He continued: “[Kanye] was like, ‘I reached out to Obama for years and I couldn’t get anything done. Trump gave me a meeting.’ I said, ‘Trump played you, bro.'”

When Kanye claimed that he wanted to have open dialogue with his tweets, Darden pushed back. “I said, ‘Kanye, the conversation’s been open, bro. You’re just not a part of it, but you’re just chiming in now because you got an album coming out.'”

Yeezy went on to share his thoughts on de-programming people and more. “Kanye wants to de-program people. That’s his ultimate goal, to have people think differently than we thought before,” Darden added. “The only reason he likes this Candace lady is because she’s challenging conventional black thought.

“He feels like he’s been demonized and as a society we demonize individuals who are trying to challenge conventional thought,” Darden added. “We demonize them for trying to think different, when they’re just trying to make progress…Multiple times through our conversation, he said, ‘I just want to lead with love.’ I said, ‘You’re a liar because the people you’re aligning yourself with aren’t leading with love.'”

West endorsed then President-elect Donald Trump in November of 2016. “If I would’ve voted, I would have voted for Trump,” he said during a “Saint Pablo” show in San Jose, Calif. “I don’t think his approach was just entertaining, because that trivializes it, I actually think that his approach was absolutely genius because it fucking worked.” The following month, West met with Trump for 15 minutes at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

“I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues,” Kanye tweeted after the meeting. “These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago. I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.”

UPDATE: Darden also seemed to indicate that West struggled with an opioid addiction when he was hospitalized for a reported mental breakdown in 2016. “Nobody really showed love for me when I was addicted to opioids and in the hospital,” West reportedly said.

Darden said this was untrue. “You’re a liar,” he claims to have replied. “I know people who personally reached out to Pusha [T], Scooter Braun, and anybody close to you to come to your aid.”
