Janelle Monáe celebrates pussy power in the video for her Grimes-assisted female anthem “PYNK,” the third track from her upcoming third album and “emotion picture,” Dirty Computer.
In the fierce and feminine clip, directed by Emma Westenberg, Janelle hits the desert with her girls before pulling up to the PYNK Rest-Inn. She rocks a variety of fashionable outfits including pink ruffled pants made to look like her most intimate body part.
“Pink like the inside of your baby,” she sings. “Pink like the tongue that goes down / Pink like the paradise found.”
The ladies flaunt their fierce style poolside. They hit up a diner and show off their underwear, with empowering catchphrases like “I grab back” and “Great cosmic mother.”
“PYNK is a brash celebration of creation. self love. sexuality. and pussy power!” explains Janelle. “PYNK is the color that unites us all, for pink is the color found in the deepest and darkest nooks and crannies of humans everywhere… PYNK is where the future is born….”
In an interview with Beats 1, Monáe spoke about her “extremely vulnerable” new album, which features contributions from Julia Michaels and Chuck Lightning. “I’m actually terrified. It’s such an honest body of work and I don’t know how people are going to react to it,” she told Zane Lowe. “I know that there are a lot of things that I haven’t discussed and I think this is the album that you’ll get an opportunity to get a closer glimpse into my mind and into my heart.”
In February, Janelle dropped the singles “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane.” Dirty Computer, which will also include a narrative film, arrives everywhere April 27.
