JAY-Z breaks down the art of rapping with David Letterman.
Hov opens up about what makes MCs great in a preview of Letterman’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” Netflix series. The clip arrives ahead of Shawn Carter’s forthcoming episode.
“You can have a great voice, and you can just almost say anything,” he says in a teaser. “I think Snoop Dogg has a great voice. He can say, ‘One-two-three, and to the four.’ I was like ‘Oh my god.’ It just sounds good, right?”
Later, Jigga also praises his “Renegade” partner-in-rhyme. “You could be someone like Eminem and have amazing cadence,” he continues. “You almost become percussion inside the music.” As an example, the Roc Nation boss referenced Slim Shady’s “The Way I Am.”
Tying it all together, JAY also adds: “There’s multiple ways to be be really good. Some people just have it all.”
The interview will focus on much more than hip-hop. They also discuss JAY-Z’s family, authenticity, President Donald Trump, Kanye West, and Beyoncé. “I’m told that your wife is also in show business,” Letterman jokes. Hov and his wife are getting ready to hit the road on the “OTR II Tour” this summer.
Jigga is following in some famous footsteps. President Barack Obama, George Clooney, and Malala Yousafzai were Letterman’s previous guests on the Netflix program. Howard Stern and Tina Fey will come behind Hov.
JAY-Z’s episode hits Netflix April 7.
