Vince Staples has a message for his critics: “Get off my dick, or fund my lifestyle.”
The Long Beach, Calif. rapper has launched a GoFundMe page to encourage his haters to #GTFOMD or help him raise $2 million dollars to pay for an early retirement.
“We’ve got a lot of complaints about our recent show performances, energy on stage, production choice,” he explained in a video message to potential funders. “I think one person said it sounds like we’re rapping on robot video game beats. We would like to apologize for that.”
In the wake of criticism, Staples thought of an alternative. “You can decide to donate to the cause of 2 million dollars, which will allow me to shut the fuck up forever, and you will never hear from me again,” he said. “No songs, no interviews, no anything. If not, you can choose to let me do what the fuck I want to do, when I want to do it. Get off of my dick, or fund my lifestyle. The choice is yours. Either way we appreciate you.”
Should Vince reach his goal, he’s agreed to the following: buy a Honda, get a year’s supply of soups “for the homies locked down,” buy a puppy, and move to Palmdale, Calif. So far, he’s earned $294.
Some fans are donating money to the cause, while others are explaining the irony. “Do people understand that if you fund him, you hate what he does and want him to quit?” one commenter wrote on the page. “Christ. Anyway, DON’T fucking fund him and let him do his thing!”
