Meek Mill Donates $10,000 to Colin Kaepernick's Charity Campaign

Following in the footsteps of Chris Brown, Jhené Aiko, Snoop Dogg, T.I., and more, Meek Mill has donated $10,000 to athlete-turned-activist Colin Kaepernick’s million-dollar pledge initiative. The incarcerated rapper chose to make the donation to Youth Services Inc., an organization that works with families, at-risk teens, and children.

“When I mentioned this opportunity, [Meek] immediately wanted to be involved,” said Kaepernick. “He wanted to help uplift our communities so he matched my $10,000 for a total of $20,000. Even though Meek has been hit with unjust sentencing, he continues to uplift and fight for our communities.”

Last week, Joey Bada$$ and Nick Cannon donated $10,000 apiece to Communities United for Police Reform in New York City. Colin matched their $10,000 for a total of $30,000. Other stars involved in the “10 for 10” campaign are Serena Williams, actor Jesse Williams, and NBA stars Kevin Durant and Steph Curry.

Kaepernick, who protested police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem while he was a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has been an outspoken supporter of Meek through his recent probation violation case. “We’ll continue to fight against the harsh sentencing practices that have affected Meek & millions of other POC for generations,” he said back in November.

Meek’s legal fight continues. Over the weekend, it was reported that a court clerk named Wanda Chavarria asked the Philadelphia rapper to donate money for her son’s college tuition. Now, that has resulted in a formal court investigation, according to TMZ. For her part, Chavarria claimed that Meek did not give her money and that the judge, Genece Brinkley, was not aware of her actions. In recent months, Brinkley has also been accused of improper requests by Meek’s legal team.
