Almost exactly two years after dropping When It’s Dark Out, G-Eazy is back with his third major label effort, The Beautiful & Damned.
The stars align on the 20-song double album, which features the top 10 smash “No Limit” with Cardi B and A$AP Rocky. Gerald is joined by his girlfriend Halsey on the “Bonnie & Clyde”-inspired “Him & I,” while other guests include Charlie Puth (“Sober”) and Zoe Nash (“The Beautiful & Damned”).
Elsewhere, the project features Anna of the North (“Pick Me Up”), Sam Martin (“Leviathan”), E-40 and Jay Ant (“Charles Brown”), Sg Lewis and Louis Mattrs (“No Less”), Ugochi (“Fly Away”), and Drew Love of They (“Love Is Gone”).
According to G-Eazy, the album was inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel of the same name. “It’s about two people in love in the ’20s, when everybody was drinking too much, partying, and living this crazy lifestyle,” he explained. “They have this fantasy of living this over-the-top life, but realizing how hard it is to sustain in this crazy world they lived in. The ’30s were about to hit, but they didn’t know, with the Great Depression, everything was gonna be gone.”
The double album is also meant to represent the duality of G-Eazy and Gerald. “The dark and light side of celebrity and the way people view this exciting fast-paced lifestyle,” he told Fuse. “It’s a lot of fun and it comes with the partying and the rock star lifestyle that people imagine it as but there’s also this dark side to it. It’s also about the two sides of me. I’m a Gemini so that’s something I’ve always explored in my music.”
