Cardi B claps back.
After Azealia Banks called her a “poor man’s” Nicki Minaj, the “Bodak Yellow” chart-topper has responded to the hate.
Taking to Twitter, Bardi shared a short clip of Banks dancing and rapping along to “Bodak” in a nightclub. Her caption: “One of the reasons Bodak Yellow went #1 cuz even the HATERS LOVE IT !!”
Just one day prior, as other celebrities were congratulating Cardi B on becoming only the second solo female rapper with an unaccompanied No. 1 single, Banks disparaged her achievements.
“I’m sorry. Black industry men are too hype for this Latina girl,” she tweeted. “I’ve never seen them jump like this for remy or nicki. Spinning this ‘for the culture’ story when they are simply letting white men at Atlantic buy them into hating their own women.
“Charlamagne [Tha God] and black men in hiphop should have gotten me, remy AND nicki a number one before they gave cardi or iggy one,” she added. “But literally white guys buy black men away from black women and it’s soo cringe.”
She also called her a “poor man’s Nicki” and claimed that she is “only black when blacks want to include themselves in a success story.”
Despite this, Cardi has received an abundance of praise from fellow musicians, including Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Rita Ora, Kehlani, Quavo, Offset, DJ Khaled, DeJ Loaf, Rapsody, T.I., and Taylor Swift, who sent flowers in support of her history-making achievement.
Last night, Bardi also boasted about her hit on “The Tonight Show” during a performance of G-Eazy’s “No Limit.” “You know me, Cardi B,” she rapped. “No. 1 on the charts.”
