Macklemore pulls inspiration from a childhood classic for his latest Gemini single, the Offset-assisted “Willy Wonka.”
The Seattle rapper dropped a trailer for the song, which features behind-the-scenes footage of the recording process.
After shooting some hoops, the guys go inside to write their verses. “I’m in the booth,” raps Macklemore. “I’m a motherfuckin’ icon, boots made of python / I met with the Pres. and I’m in Obama’s iPod.”
Delivering his trademark “woo” ad-libs, Offset also provides some Chocolate Factory-inspired bars. “I got more flavor than Willy Wonka,” he raps. “I took three bitches to Benihana / Then took a jet up to Punta Cana.”
It is unclear when “Willy Wonka” will be released, but the song follows the Lil Yachty-assisted “Marmalade” and “Glorious” featuring Skylar Grey.
Including collaborations with Kesha, Eric Nally, and Dan Caplen, Macklemore’s sophomore album Gemini — his first solo release since 2005’s The Language of My World — is due Sept. 22.
