Kendrick Lamar leads this year’s nominees with eight nods, followed by The Weeknd and Katy Perry, who have five apiece.
Speaking of Perry, the pop songstress is set to host the festivities this year. After releasing her latest album, Witness, Katy announced her new gig by posing as a moon woman in honor of the network’s decision to replace their Moonman trophy with a Moon Person.
“I’ve been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson,” said Perry. “Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids.”
The 2017 MTV VMAs will air on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
