Watch JAY-Z's 'Footnotes of 'Adnis''

  /  07.31.2017

Last week, JAY-Z dropped the long-awaited video for “Adnis,” a bonus cut from 4:44. Now, the Roc Nation boss unveils “Footnotes of ‘Adnis,'” the fifth episode of an ongoing TIDAL-exclusive series, which features interviews and anecdotes from various men.

Hov kicks off this chapter of “Footnotes” by sharing how his perspective of his father, Adnis Reeves—who the song was inspired by—changed after he reflected on his dad’s life story. “When you look at it through that scope, through that lens, you don’t look at it in such a harsh view,” he said. “You look at it like, ‘Man, life fucked you up. I’m sorry that happened to you. I wish you would have told me. I wish you could have said something to me. I could have helped you.”

After explaining the trials and tribulations that his father went through, JAY-Z went on to reveal that their final reunion came just a month before his dad’s death.

Elsewhere in the “Footnotes” episode, Chris Rock, Mahershala Ali, Bill Burr, Mack Wilds, DJ Khaled, and Kevin Hart share stories about their fathers. Meanwhile, Will Smith recalls an important lesson he learned from his daughter Willow, who shaved her head in order to end the “Whip My Hair Tour” early.

“Adnis” is one of three bonus songs on 4:44. Previously only available on the physical copy of the album, the tracks are now available on TIDAL.
