Nicki Minaj continues her prolific output. Following recent collaborations with Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz, and Alicia Keys, the “most awarded female rapper in history” teams up with Calvin Harris on their summer jam “Skrt On Me.”
Over a breezy island beat, the Trini rapper sings along to her dance floor companion with Auto-Tuned flavor. “If you ride, baby, ride up,” she sings. “Pull up from behind, baby, wine up / You and me, we can shine up / So baby, come make your mind up.”
While she’s seductive, she’s also boastful. During her one rap verse, Nicki brags about her status in the game, while seemingly addressing her break-up from Philadelphia’s own Meek Mill. “Now they callin’ me Billy, I’m the goat,” she raps. “No Achilles heel since I left Philly / Countin’ them millis to billis.”
Harris’ star-studded album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 has already spawned the Pharrell, Big Sean, and Katy Perry-assisted “Feels,” plus “Rollin” with Future and Khalid, “Heatstroke” with Young Thug, Ariana Grande, and Skateboard P, and “Slide” featuring Frank Ocean and Migos.
Featuring additional collaborations with John Legend, Kehlani, D.R.A.M., Jessie Reyez, and PARTYNEXTDOOR, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 is due at midnight.
