Groovy Q is coming. Following releases from his TDE labelmates Kendrick Lamar and SZA, ScHoolboy Q is planning to drop his third album.
While on stage with Ab-Soul at his “YMF Tour” stop in L.A. on Friday (May 26), the “THat Part” rapper revealed that his project could arrive after SZA’s Ctrl. “And I just might have my album for y’all after SZA so I’m out here,” Q told the crowd (via XXL).
While an actual release date is unknown, Q’s album will follow SZA’s debut, which drops June 9.
This will mark Q’s first album since last year’s Blank Face LP, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Speaking with Beats 1 in February, Groovy Tony revealed that he’s “halfway” done with the project.
“This is more so my life after I made it to the point of ScHoolboy Q,” he told Zane Lowe. “I gave you me [on past projects], but I never gave you the other side of me, the father, the dude that’s actually happy, the dude that doesn’t be in the hood just hanging out, the dude that’s trying to put his homies in position now.”
In addition to Kendrick, SZA, and Q, TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith promised a new album from Jay Rock before the year is over.
