Exclusive: Master P Returns with New Album 'Intelligent Hoodlum'

  /  05.26.2017

Don’t call it a comeback. On his 26th year in the music industry, the legendary and influential Master P is ready to release his 15th studio album, Intelligent Hoodlum.

Along with his daughter Cymphonique, the No Limit mogul stopped by Rap-Up HQ this week to talk about his latest project, which drops Saturday (May 27). “I’m getting better with time,” he says, reflecting on his latest work. “Being able to put out good music, top quality street music, and it’s just our time.”

Intelligent Hoodlum features the Ice Cream Man’s brother and frequent collaborator Silkk the Shocker on the rags-to-riches tales of “I Done Seen.” The project also includes the motivational “I Ain’t Going Back” and the street-infused “Grew Up.”

Growth and longevity are major themes on this album, which he credits to his upbringing in New Orleans. “It made me get out here,” he says. “To get on my game, and do what I’m doing now, to be able to have longevity at this and still be able to hold it down in this music industry without selling my soul, selling over 100 million records, and only having a distribution deal. We’ve always been independent. No Limit Records has always been independent.”

Master P will launch Intelligent Hoodlum at an exclusive pop-up event on Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles on Saturday (May 27). Only 100 copies of the album will be available for $100 each.

In July, the hip-hop mogul will reunite onstage with his No Limit family, including Silkk the Shocker, Mystikal, and Mia X, at the ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans.
