Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are giving fans another look into their star-studded HBO documentary, The Defiant Ones.

Eminem appears in a new trailer for the four-part series, explaining the difference between the men who signed him to an Aftermath-Interscope deal in the late ’90s. “Jimmy Iovine is the levitator,” says Slim Shady. “Dre is the innovator.”

Meanwhile, U2’s Bono uses a different analogy to define Iovine. “Jimmy is like a virus that enters the system uninvited,” he explains.

D-R-E opens up about his determination in the new trailer, too. “I was really determined to be a success,” he says. “I was blessed to find hip-hop.” Finally, Iovine describes how fear played into his triumphs. “Fear is a powerful thing,” he says. “It’s got a lot of fire power.”

Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming, has been beaming about the years-in-the-making doc since December. “The Defiant Ones has everything you expect in a great story — drama and humor, tragedy and triumph,” he said. “Allen Hughes takes you on a journey through some of the most important flash points of popular culture, and I’m delighted that we can bring this unforgettable saga to our viewers.”

The Defiant Ones, which also features Nas, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar, airs July 9 on HBO.
