Drake Plans 'Very Big Moment' at Billboard Music Awards

  /  05.20.2017

Watch out for Drake. He’s about to “Glow” at the Billboard Music Awards.

The 6 God hasn’t performed at an awards show since last year’s BRITs, but he’s set to make a splash at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, according to the show’s executive producer Mark Bracco.

“Drake does not perform on television very often so I think whenever he does it’s a real event,” Bracco told Billboard. “We built a real terrific relationship with his team, working creatively with them and coming up with a big idea, and I think it’s gonna be a very, very big moment in the show. It’s not a surprise necessarily but it’s gonna be a moment that people aren’t exactly expecting…. It’ll be memorable, I promise you that.”

Bracco said it took months to plan out Drizzy’s set, noting that it was important to make it special for the More Life MC, who racked up 22 nominations at this year’s show.

“We were talking with Drake’s people for months about doing the show,” he said. “Obviously he then became the biggest nominee and that’s a big deal and just trying to come up with something really different and unique and exciting and spectacular… And that’s what Drake deserves is a big, huge moment and, luckily, in working with his team I think we’ve come up with something creatively that’s going to be really astounding.”

Drake isn’t the only star taking the stage on Sunday. His Young Money labelmate Nicki Minaj is slated to open the event with guests Lil Wayne, Jason Derulo, and David Guetta. “She’s opening the show as a way of honoring a great achievement she had on the Billboard charts this year,” said Bracco. “It’s going to be an epic opening.”

The show will also include performances by Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, John Legend, Florida Georgia Line, and Imagine Dragons.

The 2017 Billboard Music Awards are set to air live on Sunday at 8 p.m. EST/ 5 p.m. PST on ABC.
