Donald Glover Developing 'Deadpool' TV Series

Donald Glover’s Hollywood takeover continues.

After landing roles in The Lion King and Star Wars, the Golden Globe-winning MC has his hands on an upcoming animated comedy series about Marvel’s Deadpool, which is coming to FXX in 2018.

The as-yet-untitled show will be geared towards adults with an R-rating, according to EW, and FX is thrilled about its prospects.

“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s ‘Deadpool’ series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit ‘Atlanta,’ said Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX. “With the success of ‘Legion,’ we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

Marvel’s TV chief, Jeph Loeb, concurs. “Deadpool, Donald and FX — the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth,” said Loeb. “We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with ‘Legion’ continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”

Led by Donald Glover and Stephen Glover, this is an entirely separate project from the live-action Deadpool film, which dropped last year. Starring Ryan Reynolds, a sequel to that film is due to hit theaters next year. Meanwhile, the FXX series has yet to hire its lead voice actor.

Gambino, who is set to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, a Han Solo Star Wars film, and Jon Favreau’s live-action Lion King remake, is also planning to return to FX with Season 2 of “Atlanta” in 2018.
