As she gears up for her Notorious B.I.G. duets album The King & I, Faith Evans unleashes her new single, “Ten Wife Commandments,” a flip of her late husband’s classic drug dealer’s anthem, “Ten Crack Commandments.”
Using Biggie’s Life After Death vocals for the countdown, Faith sings about the rules to being a great wife. “Number 9,” B.I.G. raps, with Evans responding: “Should’ve been number one to me / Gotta take care of the family.”
“Ten Wife Commandments” is actually the first song that Faith worked on while crafting The King & I. “With ‘Ten Crack Commandments’ being one of the songs I had always wanted to redo, I found it and got to work!” she told Rolling Stone. “It took a few different sessions to get the commandments to be meaningful and clever, but I do feel these are points that both men and women can appreciate.”
Earlier this month, Faith opened up about the album during a live interview with Rap-Up. “After [‘Ten Wife Commandments’], every session just came together,” she said. “I knew that I wanted to not let Big’s legacy down, and keep the integrity of his work, while still being creative, and being true to myself as an artist.”
The King & I, featuring appearances from Lil’ Kim, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, 112, and Snoop Dogg, is due May 19, two days before Biggie’s birthday.
