Just one day after premiering his Jhené Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, and Trey Songz collaboration “It’s a Vibe,” 2 Chainz answers the call on “Smartphone.”
“My partner locked up with a smartphone,” he raps, before clarifying: “Partner got an Android.”
Over thumping trap production, Tity Boi even answers a call in the middle of the song. “Can you hear me, boy?” he asks his incarcerated friend. “Call me when you get some service so I can holla you, bruh.”
“Smartphone” is the latest release from 2 Chainz’ forthcoming album Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, which has also spawned the Gucci Mane and Quavo-assisted “Good Drank” and “Good Drank 2.0” featuring the Trap Choir.
The Atlanta rapper recently spoke about the forthcoming effort. “I felt like [the title] applied,” he told Billboard. “I felt like this was the time. I think [trap is] leading categories as far as genre in music, listeners and streaming. I’m excited to bring that to the forefront. I’m excited to be one of the people that kind of fill that lane.”
The album, with possible cameos from Drake and Justin Bieber, is set to arrive April 7.
