Xscape is comin’ right back at ‘cha.
Nineteen years after the group’s last album Traces of My Lipstick, LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and Kandi Burruss have announced the crew’s revival. “It’s official,” Tocha wrote on Instagram. “Xscape is Back. Thanks to all of our fans for your prayers & your loyalty.”
Peers are already celebrating the group’s reunion. “Pretty dope to hear the women of Xscape say they’re going to work and tour again,” said Monica. “It’s getting real out here again and I love it.”
Xscape rose to prominence with their 1993 debut, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. In total, they’ve released three albums, including Off the Hook and Traces of My Lipstick. Their hits include “Just Kickin’ It,” “Understanding,” “The Arms of the One Who Loves You,” “My Little Secret,” “Feels So Good,” and “Who Can I Run To.”
But bad blood kept Xscape from reuniting over the years. In 2013, Kandi revealed that she was upset with Tamika for spreading rumors that she’d had sex with Jermaine Dupri’s father Michael Mauldin. “To this day now, I have to see people try to say that I had sex with Jermaine’s father,” Burruss told V-103 at the time. “She said that just to make me look bad to people. She came back to apologize to me, but she never apologized in public…It’s not true. It was a flat-out lie. When people do stuff to try to damage you or bring you down to the public, that’s hateful.”
Today, however, the group is turning the page. According to Kandi, the hatchet was buried after a conversation that took place on Monday (Feb. 27). “It was emotional, but then we had a real conversation, which we haven’t had in a long time,” she said. “I was able to let it go after that.”
Tamika added: “Now, we grown. We gon’ let the bygones be bygones. It’s the last time you will hear this. Anything after this is going to be our legacy and what we doing next.”
The group is reunited, but nothing new has been confirmed. “We’ve been approached about a lot of different opportunities,” said Kandi. “I don’t like to confirm anything until the ink dries, but I definitely can say that I am looking forward to performing again with my group members.”
Tocha concurred. “We definitely have different offers on the table,” she said. “We’re just taking our time to make sure that we have everything right and in order, but you guys will see us perform again. That’s for sure.”
