New Music: Lil Uzi Vert - 'Uppin Downers'

  /  02.01.2017

Lil Uzi Vert reveals an up and down battle with drugs on his latest release, “Uppin Downers (SoundCloud Rappers Only),” produced by DJ Plugg.

The confessional cut finds Uzi rapping about his destructive habit. “I was on Addy to keep me up,” he raps. “I was on Xannys to bring me down / I was on Molly to keep me up / I was on Perkys to bring me down.”

Throughout the song, Vert also sings about how these habits affect his decision making. “I don’t wanna go if there aren’t no pills there,” he declares.

“Upping Downers” could be a loosie, but it could also be a track off his forthcoming album, Luv Is Rage 2, which is expected to arrive this year. In a tweet, Vert noted that he’s still finishing the much-anticipated LP.

Expect more music from Uzi soon. After releasing “Uppin,” he tweeted: “That was for my rockstars…I got more dropping today for da basics.”

Uzi is currently celebrating the success of his Migos collaboration “Bad and Boujee,” which has catapulted beyond viral success into the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100. The track marks his first chart-topper to date. Up next, he’s working on the Fate of the Furious theme song with Travis Scott and Quavo.
