As Donald Trump gets sworn into office on Inauguration Day, Joey Bada$$ unleashes his politically-charged anthem, “Land of the Free.”
“Sometimes I speak and I feel like it ain’t my words,” he raps. “Like I’m just a vessel channeling inside this universe / I feel my ancestors arrested inside of me / It’s like they want me to shoot my chance and change society.”
With that, Joey provides an impassioned message against Trump: “Sorry America, but I will not be your soldier / Obama just wasn’t enough, I just need some more closure / And Donald Trump is not equipped to take this country over / Let’s face facts.”
Further driving the point home, the song’s cover art features Bada$$ wearing a “Make Amerikkka Suck Again” shirt, a take on Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Yesterday, Joey released a similar message in an artful GQ freestyle about race and freedom.
Despite protests, Trump is set to be sworn in during his inauguration ceremony at 11:30 a.m. ET this morning. Meanwhile, Bada$$ — who turns 22 today — is readying his sophomore album, AABA, due “soon.”
