More details are emerging in the wake of Kanye West’s hospitalization.
The rapper was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Monday (Nov. 21) due to sleep deprivation and dehydration. Now, TMZ reports that Yeezy’s personal physician, Dr. Michael Farzam, phoned 911 after erratic behavior and a possible 5150.
According to the report, the physician warned the dispatcher that West was not violent, but would become violent when police arrived. He also reportedly told officials that Kanye attempted to assault a gym staff member.
Sources in law enforcement say that the call was for a man with mental illness: “Jim Jones, 39 years old, 5’8″, 175 lbs … suffers from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration.”
A police report indicates that the doctor told police that Yeezy had been placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold, which is typically done “when a person, as a result of a mental health disorder, is a danger to others, or to himself or herself, or gravely disabled.”
As a protocol when working with a person who is on a 5150 hold, police reportedly handcuffed West to his stretcher. TMZ reports that there is “an issue over whether the doctor actually placed Kanye on a 5150.”
West has been enveloped in controversy recently, after abruptly ending concerts, announcing his support for President-elect Donald Trump, calling out former allies Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Drake, and canceling the rest of his “Saint Pablo Tour.”
