Fans amped about The Hamilton Mixtape still have to “Wait for It.” But while they hold on for the anticipated release, they can at least enjoy the project’s early cuts, like today’s offering which comes from Usher.
“Wait for It” is a mellow track that allows Usher to harmonize about love and death by covering the original, which appeared in the Broadway play that inspired the tape.
“My grandfather was a fire and brimstone preacher,” sings Usher. “But there are things that the homilies and hymns won’t teach ya / My mother was a genius, my father commanded respect / When they died they left no instructions, just a legacy to protect.”
Usher is coming off the September release of Hard II Love, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Meanwhile, “Wait for It” arrives alongside “Wrote My Way Out,” which features Nas, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Dave East, and Aloe Blacc.
Including appearances by Wiz Khalifa, Common, The Roots, Chance the Rapper, and many more, The Hamilton Mixtape is due Dec. 2.
