Willow Smith is using her music to heal.
Taking to SoundCloud, the 16-year-old singer explained that her latest release, the self-produced “November 9th,” was crafted on Election Day.
“I wrote this song on the day of the election,” she wrote. “Peace and revelations to all!”
Meanwhile, the song seems to be a call-to-action for the disenfranchised. “Don’t let the world put out your fire,” sings Willow. “Take my hand and you will see / Sadness and anger aren’t everything / Baby boy, don’t lose your sweetness / Don’t think your humanity equals weakness / Take my hand and you shall see / Suppression and pain are not everything.”
It’s a short song, at under two minutes, but it’s a powerful one from young Willow.
This may be a loosie, but it could also be a sign of what’s to come. Last year, Willow released Ardipithecus and the year before that, she dropped her 3 EP.
