Lil Wayne is pledging his allegiance to Jay Z.
During his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival set in Los Angeles on Saturday (Nov. 12), Weezy F. changed the lyrics to his hit “I’m Me” from “I’m a motherfuckin’ Cash Money millionaire” to shout out the Roc instead.
“I’m a motherfuckin’ R-O-C millionaire / I’m a motherfuckin’ Roc-A-Fella millionaire,” he rapped.
It’s unclear exactly why Wayne was repping the Roc. It could be due to his partnership with Jay Z’s TIDAL, but the shoutout comes a year after the deal closed. It could also just be to spite Cash Money and Birdman, who Wayne is currently suing for $51 million.
Wayne and Hov have had an interesting relationship throughout the years. They’ve been collaborators and foes, but the two put their differences aside last year to join forces as TIDAL co-owners. Weezy has also called Hov his idol.
Wayne’s Tha Carter V is still being held up due to his ongoing legal battle with Cash Money. The album, however, is said to be done.
“It’s done, sitting and wrapped as is,” he recently told The New York Times. “I just listened to it for the first time in months the other day. I had forgotten every single word on it, because I work every day. I popped it in, and I was like, it’s still so much better than everything I’ve ever heard. Not what’s going on right now — everything I’ve ever heard.”
